Cerumen Management
Preferred Products, the company chosen to assist ASHA, AAA, ADA and many of the
state Audiology Associations in conducting their Cerumen Management Workshops,
continues to lead the way in this vital field.
Now, with the advent of the "Deep Canal Device" audiologists are required to
perform "Deep Canal Cleaning and Placement". As the company hired by Lyric to
train their trainers, Preferred Products has assembled the most comprehensive
and affordable deep
canal instrument and equipment packages available.
Over the past two decades Preferred Products has been instrumental in training
and helping the clinician in these new areas that fall within their scope of
practice. Our expertise and long time experience is always available to field
questions and walk clients through the often confusing use of new instruments.
We invite you to call us, we'll go over the options, the equipment and work with
you to help determine the best instrument solutions for your practice.

Constant Magnification: The Hotchkiss is the only
otoscope that permits unobstructed access for simultaneous instrumentation and
viewing under full magnification. The strategic placement of the
magnifying lens, allows instrument access without sliding the lens out of the
way. Thus affording a clear, comprehensive view of the operative area and
the cerumen extraction instrument.
Functional Design: Revolutionary design permits effective
one hand use. The Hotchkiss Otoscope is designed to be held by the thumb
and index finger of either hand, enabling canal straightening by the middle
finger of the same hand. This frees the other hand for cerumen removal.

Cerumen removal with the Hotchkiss Otoscope using:
1) Baron Suction tip 2) Micro-Forcep 3)Curette
Coaxial Optical System with Xenon Gas Lamp/Reflector: With the exclusive concave mirror optical system in the Hotchkiss Otoscope, light emanates from the speculum tip along the line of vision. The illuminated area and the viewed area are the same. This coaxial optical system eliminates parallax error and illuminates the operative area with a clean, white light. The Xenon gas lamp has a built in reflector, giving up to 300% more forward lighting.

Coaxil Optical System with triple condensation of xenon light:
1) The filament's light is condensed by the lamp's lens & reflector. 2) The
concave mirror gathers the light rays and focuses them. 3) The rays are further
condensed by the magnification lens.
Specula Designed for Cerumen Management: The Hotchkiss Otoscopeä flanged specula are not only more comfortable for the patient, but have specially designed sloping sides that permit easier access of cerumen instruments and reduce glare. The physiological graduation of tip sizes is 60% larger than the preceding one giving a greater selection in tip sizes. Hotchkissä Specula range from 2.5mm - 8mm. In cerumen management larger size tips are often necessary (8mm is 2 1/2 x as large as the standard 5mm).

Hotchkiss Specula:
1) Cross section showing slope and flange. 2) 2.5mm to
8mm with common tangent
Hotchkiss Accessories Essential for Cerumen Management:
The 5x Magnification Zoom Lens provides a view five times normal size.
Permits use of the Hotchkiss Otoscopeä for
some operative procedures that would otherwise require an operating microscope.
Essential for cerumen removal.
The Two-People Looker inserts into the viewing port, and using a beam
splitter, allows simultaneous viewing. Used in teaching, diagnostic comparison,
or simply allowing a parent to see cerumen build up in a child’s ear.

Hands-Free use: Having the use of both hands - you'll wonder
how you ever managed before!

Surgical Loupes provide hands-free, binocular coaxial illumination and
visualization. Ideal for cerumen management, the Surgical Loupes
represent an innovative departure from the ordinary. If you have not
used Loupes before, there is a slight learning curve. However, unlike
the surgical microscopes, learning to master our Loupes is easy and only
takes a few "ears" rather than a few "years". Clear, crisp imaging at
3x magnification, comfortable 340mm working distance and fully
adjustable optical lenses, available with or without our LED lighting
system able to deliver intense bright, white, shadow free light into the
ear canal.

Cerumen
Management with the Preferred Ear Irrigatorâ

Designed exclusively for cerumen management, the Preferred Ear
Irrigatorâ attaches to the Water Pikâ
and directs a pulsating water stream through four laser cut jets. These jets
have been designed so that the water does not strike the tympanic membrane,
rather the water is aimed toward the canal, where it safely loosens and removes
the cerumen with a rocking action. Possibility of damage to the TM is further
reduced by the smooth, round design of the tip.
